A popular car rental app for Delhiites has been found to be a scam.
In a case of bad customer service, a Delhi-based app called Kayak Car Rental, which was set up in April, was found to have failed to provide enough information and had misled customers.
The company claimed to offer a car rental service which is free of charge to the public.
However, its customer reviews were poor.
“I have to say, I am not sure why we did not get a good review.
The only thing I can say is that the app has been shut down,” said Manish Kumar, who owns two car rental companies.
“Kayak Car Rentals has been closed.
Its been shut for two months,” said Kumar.
According to a report in the Times of Indian, Kumar claims that he contacted the Delhi Taxi and Motor Vehicles (DMV) to complain.
The DMV refused to provide any comment on the matter, saying, “We have been told that we cannot comment on this matter at this time”.
According to the report, the company was suspended from selling vehicles on its website.
However the Delhi Police, which has a strong record of investigating car rental scams, is investigating the matter.
“The police have been monitoring the matter,” said a senior police officer.
The Delhi Taxi has confirmed the issue to The Times.
“We are monitoring the situation and are following all the directions of the Delhi government,” said spokesperson for the Delhi Transport Authority (DTA), Kailash Kumar.
“This is not a case where we have taken a decision,” said the spokesperson.
The case is being investigated by Delhi Police.
Delhi’s police force also took the initiative to launch a task force to investigate the scam.
“There are several similar cases in Delhi that have been found not to be honest.
We are taking a tough stance on such cases.
The city has to get better and better at catching scam drivers,” said DTA spokesperson.
