You may have seen an ad for a luxury car rental company and been sold the idea that the rental would save you money on your car’s upkeep and keep you from having to worry about it being stolen.
But when you find out the company is actually a scam, you may want to steer clear.
According to the Florida Department of Consumer Affairs, CarRentals is a website offering car rental services.
The company claims that the vehicles it offers are safe and insured.
But the company doesn’t tell prospective renters the difference between its vehicles, the number of miles it will drive and whether or not the vehicles are insured.
The Florida Department warns renters not to rent from the website because the site “does not offer the vehicle inspection service of its advertised vehicle.”
In reality, the company makes its claims up as they go along, including misleading information about the number and type of vehicles they will rent.
CarRents cars come with a $3,000 deductible and a $150 registration fee, but that’s not included in the advertised rental price.
So if you find the company to be a scam you can expect to pay a lot more.
CarRenters website also says it has insurance for the vehicles that are rented and that it has been in business for more than five years.
But those claims are not substantiated.
And in the meantime, the website offers a rental contract.
The contract says you can cancel a rental at any time, but the company claims you can only cancel the rental if the vehicle is stolen.
The website doesn’t even offer the option to cancel a lease.
But if you are interested in renting a vehicle from CarRental, the site says the company has “no obligation to provide any services.”
If you are concerned about your car rental vehicle being stolen, the best thing you can do is call the company directly at (817) 845-8800.
