The next Ford Fusion may be at least a year away, and it may not be ready to roll off the production line anytime soon.
Ford revealed that the next model it will unveil at the Detroit Auto Show will not be a Fusion, but rather a GT-R.
The company also said it will not unveil a new GT-based model at this year’s event.
That leaves the door open for a Fusion or a GT3 in 2021, and with that, the question becomes, when will the company finally unveil the next-gen Fusion?
This will mark the first time Ford has officially announced a GT model for the US market since the GT1 debuted in 2008.
Ford previously teased the GT3, the next generation of the Fusion, with a 2019 reveal date.
But it also unveiled the 2018 GT4, the last Fusion, and the 2019 Fusion SE at the same time.
That left the question of when Ford would unveil the 2018 Fusion SE.
Ford has yet to confirm the car’s exact specifications.
The car is expected to use the next gen Ford Dynamic Variable Valve Control (DVVCS) system.
The automaker revealed that it would only unveil the new car when it can prove that the 2019 version is up to par with the previous model.
But the 2019 model could be ready as early as next year.
Ford said that it is now ready to announce the new GT3.
The 2018 Fusion is a bit of a departure from the previous generation of Ford’s Fusion lineup, which debuted in 2018.
It will include a more powerful 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine, an optional aluminum alloy body, and a longer wheelbase.
Ford also added a dual-zone automatic climate control system.
We will keep you posted as more details are released.
